Arina had always struggled with relationships. From a young age, she had little luck with men. Now, at thirty-two, she was still single, even though she longed for a family and a child. She had long been ready to devote herself to her future family. However, fate always seemed to bring her married men who never hesitated to keep their secret, much to her heartbreak.
Over time, she started to lose hope, questioning herself. «Why do I always fall for married men? What’s wrong with me?» she lamented to her friend, Nastya, after yet another disappointing encounter.
«Maybe I’ll just give up on men altogether,» she concluded, feeling defeated.
But then something unexpected happened. One evening, a handsome man with a red wallet appeared at her door. He introduced himself as Igor and handed her the wallet, asking if it was hers. Hesitant at first, Arina took it, only to find a photo of her mother inside, which made her smile with nostalgia.
«Yes, it’s mine. But how did you find me?» she asked.
«There was a note inside with your name and a friend’s number. I called her, and she gave me your address,» Igor explained.
«Oh yes, that’s right! It was Nastya’s idea to leave a note. I remember now. I was feeling faint once on the bus, and she helped me. I didn’t even realize I had lost it. Thank you for being honest! It’s so rare to find good people these days.»
After a brief pause, she invited him in for tea. Igor politely declined, citing that he was in a hurry, but promised they could meet again some other time.
A few days later, Igor returned with flowers and asked if she would like to go for a walk. Arina, still hesitant, asked if he was married. When he replied that he wasn’t, she agreed to go out with him, her heart warmed by his sincerity.
